Sunshine Support Group Recent Activities

During the winter months the group members have been working on a Wearable Arts project. Each member has sewn either some clothing or an accessory. We were very fortunate to have had lots of material donated by the local Salvation Army and with expert input from two “good” sewers from the community almost all members succeeded in producing at least one item – some made as many as three items.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK 5 – 11 October 2009

Events in Central Otago for this week Mental Health Awareness Week include: 

Monday 5 October starting at 10.00 am “Walk with Us” – a walk of approximately 8 kms along the Rail Trail (starting at Trail Journeys) from Clyde to Alexandra finishing at Central Stories.Bring along your friends and children – have good sun protection, hats and water bottles.

This walk is for mental wellbeing, to celebrate people’s differences and to fight against stigma and discrimination. 

Light refreshments and a social gathering run by Rural Otago PHO will be held at Central Stories with Dr Helen Brown as guest speaker.Join in along the trail if you are unable to cover the whole distance or even meet us at Central Stories about 12.00 ish. Also on Wednesday 7 October at 7.30 pm at the SF Rooms, 28 Ashworth Street, Alexandra our guest speaker  will share her experience of mental illness and how she keeps herself well. Supper provided RSVP please on 03 4487903 or 03 448 9303. Everyone welcome.

 

Stalls will be held at Cromwell New World on Tuesday 6 October and Wanaka New Wortld on Thursday 8 October also. Look out for our banner.
